The national Superpave implementation effort targeted that by 2005 the Superpave system would be standard practice in most if not all State highway agencies. From the completion of the SHRP research program to today, significant enhancements and refinements to the system have occurred. New equipment, AASHTO standards, and a growing body of experts and practitioners have transformed our industry and made Superpave a reality.
One key catalyst in the implementation efforts was the TRB Superpave Committee and the Superpave Expert Task Groups (ETG): Binder, Mixture & Aggregate, and Communications. The final meetings of the Superpave ETG’s were held in July of 2005. After this meeting, the ETG’s were restructured and reconvened to meet the emerging challenges ahead.
On the basis of this, the new ETGs were formulated as:
ETG 1 on Mixture Design & Construction Acceptance;
ETG 2 on Binder Characterization and Certification;
ETG 3 on Fundamental Properties & Advanced Modeling;
The scope of all ETGs is to:
• Provide technical input on specific projects;
• Identify potential improvements to specifications/test methods;
• Identify needed standards; and
• Provide a forum for government/industry discussion of emerging issues
This web-site is focussed on ETG 3.
